As you all know the storm of recession is still ON. Many boats have already been destroyed and God knows how many more are yet to become the prey of this deadly storm. Its destiny which takes you from place to place or in other words, its destiny which makes you to take some decisions in life. Everyone is sailing in the deadly sea in their own boats...some are in bigger ones while others are in smaller. The vibrations and currents are having more effect on the smaller one's as compared to the bigger ones. Continuosuly fighting with the waves, lightening, rain, winds with a hope that this storm will calm down. But you never know.....for sinking even a big ship like Titanic can sink...and a small boat can overcome this storm and can reach the shore safely provided Allah's grace is required. Now, lets come to the main topic of this post.....
Which organization is better and stable to work with during this period? Here are my views based on my experience and knowledge of this so called corporate world, your views are also welcome....A small organization gives better learning opportunities, better work, better challenges. If we talk in terms of appraisals, its much much better in a small company as compared to a bigger one BUT only when the market condition is good. A bigger MNC, gives you a brand name, stability, more onsite opportunities, more good and dynamic processes to learn, better atmosphere. A small organization runs only because of one or two clients. If they collapse or say bye bye, the company will take no time to bid farewell to us.
In the last 3-4 months, I have seen many such companies who were doing good in the past and have been closed just in a day. They had to wind up and sell everything within a night. So, according to me, during this rush hour, a bigger MNC is much much better and stable. If your one project ends, you will be allocated to another one may be with a delay. In a smaller organization, tension starts before the scheduled expiration of the contract. Your organization might be talking about ethics, human values, family.....but they will not think twice before chucking you out if you are on bench. Here I remember the words of founder of Infosys, Mr. Narayan Murthy -- "Love your job but never fall in love with your company, because you never know when your company will stop loving you". Everyone has priorities in life. Some people need brand name, onsite deputation, stability. Some people need faster growth, steep rise in money, designation. So, it depends on one's perspective.
People say that history repeats itself.... Now, again the trend of government jobs is coming back. Although the money is less in this sector but you can work tension free. You can sleep soundly in the night without the tension of getting fired the next day. You can devote good time with your family and friends. I still remember when I was 7-8 years old, I used to see people who were of my present age used to lead much much better life than ours. They used to work, earn, play games etc etc. Rather I can say they were not getting complaints of chest pain, stress, high blood pressure, obesity in a small age of 30-35. May be the time has changed and may be its not our fault that we have been driven to this kind of work environment.
At this time, most of us remember God and seek for divine intervension. I remember a famous shaloka by Sri Krishna - "Karmanye Vadika raste maa faleshu kadachana" i.e. keep on doing your duty sincerely and don't worry about the fruits....Hope this mantra will help...Amen!!!

ReplyDeleteanywhere where it is forgotten that the value of work can outlive mere consumption, things are prone to start failing - big MNC or small business...!! And I believe that is where the world has got itself caught now..
ReplyDeleteHi Ravi - I agree with your thoughts. Yes, whether a big or a small - every compnay is under the fire of recession. But the main concern of my post was to do the comparison in terms of stability and other factors. Thanks for your time and comment :)
ReplyDeleteHi Raghav - Analysis shows that the companies which have increased there headcount have made profits. And those who has fired people have incurred losses during this recession.
